What happens when an MGLuxM alumnus walks back into the classroom not as a formal guest speaker, but as someone who has been in the students’ shoes? For the Global Luxury Goods & Services Management (MGLuxM) Batch 12 alumnus Hrithik Kochhar, the answer was a session filled with stories, humour, honest career advice, and plenty of student interaction.
Hrithik got the conversation started with a story about losing his passport while returning from Florence. It was a fitting introduction to a session that was less about following a fixed path and more about figuring things out along the way. Sharing his journey from advertising and business consultancy to luxury content creation, he spoke openly about trying different roles, discovering what worked for him, and finding his niche in the luxury space.
That idea of finding your niche became a key part of the conversation. Hrithik offered students a candid perspective on content creation, encouraging them to look beyond crowded, generic spaces and instead build expertise around a specific interest. Whether it is watches, automobiles, fashion or travel, he highlighted how a strong point of view and authentic storytelling can turn an interest into an opportunity.
He also shared a perspective on luxury that went beyond price tags and exclusivity. For him, luxury is about the stories, craftsmanship, heritage and experiences that create an emotional connection with people. It was a reminder for students that understanding luxury is as much about understanding people and culture as it is about understanding products.
And then came perhaps the most relatable part of the conversation: the realities of building a career. “A dream without a plan is just a wish,” Hrithik told students, encouraging them to turn their ambitions into clear milestones and action. He also spoke candidly about rejection, feedback and the repetition that comes with building anything worthwhile.
The session ended with an engaging Q&A, but the conversation felt like much more than a formal alumni talk. Hrithik’s openness, humour and willingness to share both the exciting and difficult parts of his journey gave students a glimpse into what a career in luxury can really look like, and a reminder that sometimes, finding your path begins with simply being willing to explore it.
