HBL students step inside luxury hospitality at Fairmont Mumbai

 

On 9th December 2025, students from the Hospitality Business Leadership (HBL) program visited Fairmont Mumbai for an immersive industry experience. The visit offered a chance to step beyond classroom discussions and see how luxury hospitality operates in the real world.

Learning from the teams behind the brand

The visit began with a series of interactive sessions led by Fairmont Mumbai’s Learning & Development, Marketing, Digital, and Sustainability teams. These conversations gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how a luxury hotel operates and how different departments work together to create a seamless guest experience.

The Learning & Development team spoke about building strong hospitality teams and nurturing talent within the industry. Students learned how training, culture, and leadership play a key role in delivering consistent service and memorable guest interactions.

The Marketing and Digital teams then shared how luxury hospitality brands build their identity and connect with today’s travellers. From storytelling and brand positioning to the growing role of digital platforms, students saw how hotels combine tradition with modern marketing strategies.

Another insightful session focused on sustainability in hospitality. The team explained how hotels are increasingly adopting responsible practices that balance luxury with environmental awareness, demonstrating to students that sustainability is becoming an important part of modern hospitality operations.

Exploring the architecture and design of Fairmont Mumbai

After the sessions, students were given a guided tour of the Fairmont Mumbai property. It gave them a closer look at how design and architecture shape the guest experience.

One of the highlights was the conference and event spaces, where the design draws inspiration from the grandeur of a historic grand terminus. The scale, elegance, and thoughtful detailing of the space demonstrated how architecture can create an impressive yet functional environment for events and gatherings.

As students explored the property, they noticed how every space was designed with a strong sense of storytelling and attention to detail.

Experiencing restaurants, wellness, and guest spaces

The visit also included a tour of the hotel’s curated restaurants, where students observed how ambience, design, and culinary concepts work together to create unique dining experiences.

Another highlight of the visit was the luxury spa, which gave students a closer look at how wellness is becoming an important part of hospitality. The spa offers advanced treatments, including oxygen-based therapy, something many students experienced for the first time. It showed how luxury hotels are adding innovative wellness experiences to enhance guest comfort and relaxation.

When classroom concepts meet real-world hospitality

As students moved through the property, many of the ideas they had studied in class, from service excellence and brand storytelling to guest experience design, came to life. The Fairmont Mumbai left students inspired and curious about the many career paths within the hospitality industry.

Seeing these concepts applied in a real luxury hotel helped students better understand the complexity and creativity required to deliver world-class hospitality experiences.

Industry visits like this are an important part of the HBL program, giving students the chance to interact with professionals, observe real operations, and gain practical insights into how global hospitality brands function.

The HBL students extend their heartfelt thanks to the Fairmont Mumbai team for their warm hospitality and for generously sharing their knowledge and experiences. The visit was not only insightful but also a memorable step in the students’ journey into the world of luxury hospitality.
