Experiencing the legacy of The Taj Mahal Palace

Few places capture the spirit of Indian hospitality quite like The Taj Mahal Palace. For students from the Global Luxury Goods & Services Management (MGLuxM) and Hospitality Business Leadership (HBL) programs, stepping into the iconic hotel was an opportunity to experience first-hand how history, service, and design come together to create a truly memorable hospitality experience.

As they explored the property through a guided historic walk, students were introduced to the architectural details and heritage spaces that have made the hotel one of Mumbai’s most celebrated landmarks.

Moving through the corridors and halls, they relived stories of the many dignitaries, royalty, and notable personalities who have visited over the decades. Experiencing these spaces in person helped students see how a historic property preserves its character while continuing to welcome modern guests.

Learning beyond the classroom

Throughout the visit, both MGLuxM and HBL students began noticing the small details that shape a guest’s experience. The thoughtful design of spaces, the care taken in maintaining them, and the warmth that defines the Taj approach to service offered a practical example of many concepts discussed in their classrooms. For students from both programs, the visit showed how hospitality is not only about luxury settings, but also about the consistency, attentiveness, and human connection that define great service.

One of the most memorable moments was walking along the hotel’s iconic staircases, spaces that have witnessed countless historic moments. Knowing that these very steps have been used by world leaders, royalty, and celebrated personalities made the experience feel more immediate and personal, turning history into something the students could truly connect with.

By the end of the visit, what stood out most was how a single place could bring together ideas from different areas of study. For both cohorts, the visit highlighted how ideas discussed in class come alive in real environments. Observing these principles in practice helped students see how a hotel like The Taj Mahal Palace continues to uphold its reputation through care, consistency, and a deep respect for its legacy.
